Nichols Talk Podcast
Nichols Talk Podcast is a student-based podcast run out of Nichols School. The goal of the podcast series is to create a platform that promotes the Nichols community. By engaging different personalities and Nichols, we hope to foster unity by introducing the podcast individuals to a larger audience. In the process of making these podcasts, students, teachers, parents, and anyone who tunes in to listen will be provided with a unique opportunity to get to know the Nichols community in a not academic and socially friendly way. The platform provides a window into our Nichols community, which would particularly be helpful for those prospective students and parents considering Nichols. We think there is an opportunity for all to take part and project voices farther than just the classroom.

In this episode, we interview Coach Stone, a member of the Nichols community for over forty years. During Stone's youth, many opportunities in sports now available were off-limits to women. Despite this, after excelling athletically in high school, Stone attended St. Lawrence where she studied Physical Education and played sports. Along her journey, Stone played and took leadership roles in basketball, field hockey, and lacrosse, which eventually led her to be inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. This podcast focuses on the story of Stone as an athlete, while touching on her coaching at Nichols, the shift of "the game" over time, and much more.

Starting off this year, we interviewed Mr. Morris, a.k.a "Jaymo." Mr. Morris teaches many junior and senior students and also serves as the late hall proctor. Although known by students for his multipurpose classroom in Center 63', in this podcast we dive deep into Mr. Morris' passion for restoring cars, remodeling houses, and playing hockey. After discussing his interesting journey from Division 1 hockey to teaching at Nichols, Mr. Morris leaves us with some advice for those looking to pursue their own passion.

In this episode we interview Coach Michael Benedict, the head coach for the Boys Prep Hockey Team. Mr. Benedict has played and coached hockey all around the country, including teams such as the Corpus Christi Ice Rays and the Alexandria Blizzard. Shortly after coming back to Buffalo, Benedict came to coach for the Nichols Boys Prep Team. This will be Mr. Benedicts last year at Nichols as he is leaving to coach for the Junior Sabres, a travel hockey team in Buffalo. We discuss his journey in hockey, his experience coaching here, and Mr. Benedicts plans for the future as a hockey coach and more.

In this episode, we interview Dr. Harry Cohen, a graduate of the Nichols class of 1973. After graduating from Nichols, Dr. Cohen would go on to study psychology and executive coaching at Cornell University. Not only has Dr. Cohen been a mentor and coached thousands on Heliotropic Leadership, the theme of many of his presentations, but he has also written a book and founded a restaurant. During our conversations with Dr. Cohen, we explore this idea of Heliotropic Leadership along with his journey and experiences in his career.
